NAM2026: technical workshops at the heart of digital innovation

On May 27, the opening day of NAM2026, Rome’s Gazometro hosted an afternoon of workshops devoted to the changes reshaping telecommunications and digital infrastructure. Six sessions, run by companies and experts from the community, combined technical detail with reflection on where the market is heading.

Fastweb opened proceedings with a discussion of the future of the wholesale market, between competition and new forms of partnership. Meta then set out the relationship between its own infrastructure, interconnection and the so-called “long tail” of networks and operators. With Terna Energy Solutions, attention shifted to the strategic role of optical fiber for the electricity system and for Italy’s digitalization.

The program continued with the presentation of the book “Crescere con l’intelligenza artificiale” (Growing Up with Artificial Intelligence), an opportunity to explore AI’s impact on skills, organizations and communication. AWS opened a window on the workings of AS16509, covering peering, policy and internet traffic management. The afternoon closed with Fondazione Milano Cortina 2026, which described the network and connectivity design needed to support a global sporting event.

The workshops confirmed one of NAM’s defining features: creating a space in which operators, hyperscalers, strategic infrastructure providers and experts can share hands-on experience, discuss the challenges facing the sector and imagine together how the internet ecosystem will evolve.
