Rai – Radioteleviosione Italiana, the most ancient Italian TV-broadcasting company, is now is now peering at NaMeX.
Rai started officially its transmissions on January 3rd 1954. There is no original video the very first event because it was a live broadcasting of the inauguration of the new TV studios, based in Milan.
First the subscribers were quite few (around 300 000) because TVs still very expensive, but TV became soon very popular also in Italy, also thanks to the huge economic growth. In 1961 Rai 2, the second ever TV channel from Rai, was launched, and in 1979 Rai 3, the third national channel, started its transmissions.
After more than sixty years, Rai has now thirtheen national channels and five international channels; it also offers live streaming and video on demand in its website Rayplay.
