Fiber Telecom is an Italian ISP that has a large network in Italy that covers the country from Valle d’Aosta to Sicily. From now on they will also have a PoP in Rome that will enhance the quality of their services. They will be offering multi-tier 1 dual stack transit, DWDM transport, Ethernet services (L2VPN, VPLS, MPLS, L3VPN) and multi-peering facilities that will benefit from being interconnected to the NaMeX peering platform.
Born in Sicily in 2007 to fight digital divide, they count now more than 600 BTS, added to 1.000 Backhaul radio link and more than 2.000 access points.
We spoke with Michele Cannella, Head of Business Development at Fiber Telecom: “We were born in Sicily with the goal to develop and enhance the Internet in the island. However, we kept growing up throughout these 10 years and we are now a national operator. Nonetheless, our mission is still the same: we fight the digital divide and we are fully committed to providing our customers with the highest quality service. We operate from southern to northern Italy thanks to our technical staff, that is always ready to professionally take care of our customers.
Nowadays, we would define ourselves as a local to global provider. We grew up fast because Sicily is in a strategic position, being close to all submarine cables that transit in the Mediterranean Sea. Besides having a diffuse network all over the Sicilian territory, our customers can benefit from a vast backbone network that covers the whole of Italy, thanks to Sparkle and GTT infrastructures. We are working to activate another backbone route on the Adriatic coast, provided by Retelit and two more tier 1 provider: CenturyLink and Telia.
We decided to connect to NaMeX because you cannot avoid being in Rome in the Italian Internet. Our customers must have the best service in terms of quality and resiliency. Being connected to NaMeX means that we will enhance our network and that our customers will grow their ability to connect to all the networks that are already present at NaMeX. We will also be happy to contribute to the growth of NaMeX, offering to our customers the opportunity to connect directly to the NaMeX peering platform.”
Did you know? Fiber Telecom provided its services also to critical structures like civil and military airports (in Trapani). Moreover, they fight the digital divide in the whole country, not only in Sicily and southern Italy. For instance, they worked to provide with a broadband connection the most renowned hotels in Cervinia, in Valle D’Aosta. In fact, because of their location in the Alps, even the best structures were suffering a lack of services.
