AMS-IX Partnership

AMS-IX and NaMeX are Internet Exchange Points with different and complementary features. AMS-IX is one of the largest IXP in Europe and is located in one of the nodal points for the worldwide Internet, Amsterdam. It offers its members great potential in exchanging traffic due to the presence of many ISPs and carriers.

NaMeX is located in the center of the Mediterranean area - Rome - and provides its members one of the best facilities in Southern Europe to support interconnections between network operators.

A partnership program between NaMeX and AMS-IX has been developed in order to mutually increase the number of connecting members. That's why AMS-IX and NaMeX have agreed upon common strategies to pursue this goal.

Among these, the remote connection between AMS-IX and NaMeX will enable operators that are present in Rome to connect and peer with members in Amsterdam, whilst operators in AMS-IX will have new business opportunities in Rome, a favorable place to meet and get to know both the Italian market and the emerging countries from Middle East and North Africa.

A network bridge across the Mediterranean: Landing Station Project

Rome stands as a natural gateway for sea cables crossing the Mediterranean basin

Thanks to its position in the heart of the Mediterranean, NaMeX offers great potential as a natural collection point for Internet traffic coming from the Mediterranean area, providing easy access to Europe to ISPs from emerging countries.

While in the past, operators from Middle East and Asia were forced to have their connections back-hauled up to northern Europe, NaMeX now offers new connection opportunities in providing a comprehensive connection service including a remote port and transport from several landing stations around the Mediterranean to its interconnection facilities based in Rome.

Furthermore, a direct high capacity link to Amsterdam enables NaMeX members, simultaneously, to connect to one of the largest network hubs in Europe.

Besides providing new business opportunities in Rome for operators from Asia and Middle East, NaMeX arises as a complementary route to AMS-IX and the main European network infrastructure.
